Ballet Folklorico

Friday, April 30 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm - Plaza del Sol Performance Hall (PH)
http://www.arts.valleyperformingartscenter.org/

Capture the spirit of the Mexican fiesta! Ballet Folklorico "Quetzalli" de Veracruz's traditional folk music and elaborate costumes are as colorful as the quetzal bird for which the company is named. Their visual fiesta of culture and folklore features regional dances of old Mexico. The music, performed live on authentic stringed instruments, punctuates the meticulous movement, colorful clothing and perfect pulse established by the dancers. Earning standing ovations from Cuba to Malaysia, Quetzalli proves they are one of Mexico's most popular exports. Photo by Alberto Guadarrama.

A blossom of color, energy and motion, "like endlessly proliferating forces of cosmic energy," says the New York Times. The dances of Nai-Ni Chen fuse the dynamic freedom of American modern dance with the grace and splendor of Asian art.
