Spring 2012
Welcome to the Spring term. Excitement is building among the many thousands who will be graduating in just a few months. Others are just at the beginning of their journey. Our department is here to support you wherever you are at this point. If you will be continuing next year, either in a current degree program or a new academic program, and you will need financial assistance please complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the March 2, 2012 priority deadline. If you filed a FAFSA for 2011-12 you need to complete the Renewal FAFSA. If you need help completing the FAFSA, please refer to the 7 Easy Steps to the FAFSA video on our website or attend one of the FAFSA workshops on campus. The schedule is on our website.
We have several exciting Money Management events this semester: an online Cash Course scavenger hunt from January 23 to February 27; and Matador Dollar Day on February 16 (with the return of the ever-popular, Hot Dog on a Stick). Watch for emails and announcements on our website and your portal.
Remember that we correspond with you through your CSUN email address and you need to be checking it regularly – and make sure that it, or your personal email box if you automatically forward your CSUN email, is not full so that our messages get through. Also, check your portal on a regular basis throughout the year, and monitor the financial aid website and our Facebook for up-to-the minute announcements on opportunities, deadlines, and other important information.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: The federal government has new, more stringent, academic requirements for financial aid recipients. At the end of Spring 2012, we will be assessing your academic progress for financial aid and if you have not passed at least 80% of all your CSUN units attempted (courses in which you received a grade of W, WU, F, NC, or I are counted in units attempted), you will be ineligible for financial aid in 2012-13 and future years until you attain the required pass rate. ***So, please, complete and pass all the courses in which you enroll.*** Appeals will be possible only for a limited number of conditions. These conditions will be set and publicized prior to the start of the Spring 2012 term.
Have a successful and fulfilling finish to the year.
Cordially,
Lili Vidal, Director
Financial Aid and Scholarship Department
