Additional Loans for Graduate Students
The CSUN Financial Aid & Scholarship Department now offers a loan program to students in Master and Doctoral degree programs – The Federal PLUS Loan for Graduate Students
- A Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be on file and you must apply for other types of aid first. You must apply for the maximum amounts in the Stafford Loan Programs.
- A Federal Graduate PLUS Loan Information & Request Form MUST be submitted on time for the current academic year to the CSUN Financial Aid & Scholarship Department:
- You MUST complete an electronic Master Promissory Note (MPN) online at https://studentloans.gov. Instructions for completing the MPN are included in the Federal Graduate PLUS Loan Information & Request Form.
- Do NOT use the “Request PLUS Loan” link found at https://studentloans.gov. At this time CSUN is NOT accepting Federal PLUS applications submitted via that website. CSUN Graduate PLUS borrowers should use the Form links provided above to obtain a CSUN Federal PLUS Loan Request Form.
- You MUST complete Loan Entrance Counseling (LEC). Instructions for completing the LEC are included in the Federal Graduate PLUS Loan Information & Request Form.
- The PLUS loan award is subject to a Credit Decision from the Department of Education. The addition of a PLUS loan to a student’s award package does NOT guarantee a PLUS loan will be approved.
- The interest rate is currently fixed at 7.9%
- This loan is NOT subsidized by the Federal Government. Interest is capitalized and accrues while in school.
- Repayments begins within 60 days of the final disbursement (There is no grace period).
- You must be in a Masters or Doctoral Degree program.
- You must be enrolled at least half-time.
- You must be achieving Satisfactory Academic Progress as established by the CSUN Financial Aid & Scholarship Department.
You may borrow up to the Full Cost of Your Education (determined by the CSUN Financial Aid & Scholarship Department.
