Grants
Unlike loans, grants do not have to be repaid. Students must meet eligibility requirements for federal student aid and they must demonstrate financial need. To be considered for grants, students must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the award year. State grants are limited to California residents only. Application procedures for state grants may require additional forms aside from the FAFSA, and the funds for these awards may be available only on a limited basis.

Federal Work-Study
Work-Study is a federally-funded program and is awarded to eligible students through the Financial Aid Office (FAO) at California State University, Northridge. Federal Work-Study (FWS) enables you to earn that portion of your expenses not covered by grants and loans. If you have been awarded FWS funds, you must work with an eligible FWS employer to earn them.

Loans
Loans are funds that must be repaid. Most loans are awarded based on financial need and are federally funded. The "Borrower" for all federal programs must meet the general eligibility requirements in addition to specific program requirements. There are six loan programs available: Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Stafford Loans, Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS), Graduate PLUS, and Private Student Loans.
