AmeriCorps Students In Service Program (SIS) www.studentsinservice.org

The purposes of the Students in Service program are to meet critical community needs by engaging higher education students in service, and fostering within them an ethic of civic responsibility. Through the program, students are introduced to local, regional, and national Service-Learning opportunities, resulting in a regional network of student leaders committed to serving and strengthening their local communities. Students serve in partnership with schools and community-based organizations in the areas of education, human needs/services, the environment, public safety, and Homeland Security. With rising tuition costs, and competing interests, Students in Service strives to make service a viable opportunity for students.

To this end, Students in Service offers each student the opportunity to choose one of three terms of service (essentially, the number of hours s/he agrees to complete). Upon successful completion of a term of service, students are eligible for an Education Award (scholarship), which can be applied towards outstanding student loans or the Cost of Attendance at a college or university.

Students who participate will select from three options:

300 Hour Term of Service (Must complete within One Year) = $1,175 Education Award
450 Hour Term of Service (Must complete within One Year) = $1,468 Education Award
900 Hour Term of Service (Must complete within Two Years) = $2,775 Education Award
