Standardized Tests

Required standardized tests include the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), the Graduate Management Graduate Admissions Test (GMAT), and the Miller Analogies Test (MAT). The GRE may be required for fully Classified standing; exceptions are listed below.

  1. GRE required if cumulative undergraduate grade point average (GPA) is below 3.0; must score at or above 50th percentile on two of three sections.

  2. GRE required regardless of undergraduate GPA.

  3. General and advanced subject exams required regardless of GPA.

  4. GRE required if cumulative undergraduate GPA is below 3.0; must score at or above 50th percentile on one of the three sections.

  5. General GRE required for all applicants; must score at or above 50th percentile on one of the three sections. Biology subject GRE required if undergraduate degree was not in Biology (or closely related field) OR if undergraduate GPA in Biology classes was not 3.0 or higher; must score at or above the 50th percentile on any one of the subsections.

  6. Above average (80 th percentile) score on verbal section of GRE; requirement waived for students with 3.6 GPA in approved upper division English courses AND a 3.0 GPA in the last 60 undergraduate units upon entrance to the program. An alternative method of meeting the GRE requirement is available-contact the English Department for more information.

  7. GRE requirement waived for students with 3.0 GPA in all undergraduate coursework (including Health Science courses), or with 3.2 GPA in last 60 undergraduate units; GRE requirement also waived for students that have already earned an advanced degree from an accredited university.

  8. Applicants with cumulative undergraduate GPA under 3.25 but above 3.0 may be admitted as Conditionally Classified; students must score at or above 65 th percentile on the verbal section of the GRE.

  9. Satisfactory scores as prescribed by the Department on aptitude section of general GRE and advanced subject test (Psychology).

  10. GRE Required from all applicants.

  11. Submission of an acceptable GRE score within 18 months (if required).

  12. The completion of the GRE is required at the time of filing of the application.  Applicants whose cumulative undergraduate GPA is below a 3.00 must score above the 50th percentile on at least one section to be considered for program acceptance, as well as a 4 or better on the analytical writing sections.

  13. External degree program administered by The Roland Tseng College of Extended Learning.
