The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requires all F-1 and J-1 students to maintain a full course of study every semester. Undergraduate students must enroll in a minimum of 12 units. Graduate students must enroll in a minimum of 8 units. IESC is required to report student enrollment information to the DHS each semester.
Important! the last add/drop date for the Fall 2012 semester is September 14, 2012. Students must be full-time enrolled by this date. Failure to meet this deadline may affect your immigration status. If you are not able to register in full time units, please consider one of the following options:
Are you planning to enroll in a class or classes at another school in the U.S.?
Step 1: Request a Concurrent Enrollment Letter from IESC.
Step 2: Submit IESC's Concurrent Enrollment Letter to other school and register for classes.
Step 3: Submit proof of concurrent enrollment (i.e. course schedule) to IESC within 1 week of picking up IESC's Concurrent Enrollment Letter and no later than the ADD/DROP deadline of current semester.
All international students on F-1 and J-1 status are required to be enrolled full time as it is indicated above. Only under special extenuating circumstances that fall within USCIS regulations and result in the inability to maintain full time enrollment this semester, students may submit a completed Part-Time Request Form and supporting documents (if applicable) to IESC by Friday, September 7, 2012 for review. Failure to submit requests by this deadline will affect students' immigration status. Please refer to the Exceptions to the Full-time enrollment information and meet with your Foreign Student Advisor at the IESC.
Important note! Dropping below full-time status without PRIOR authorization from IESC is a violation of your F1/J1 status, which will jeopardize your legal immigration status.
If you are planning to take a semester off for Fall 2012, please complete the Leave of Absence Request Form along with supporting documents (if applicable). Students on an approved LOA must be out of the country for the duration of the semester. Students must meet with a Foreign Student Advisor to discuss this option in detail as it affects their SEVIS record.
(New students admitted for spring 2012 are not eligible for a Leave of Absence.)
Students can now order official transcripts online. You may access it from three paths:
